16 Things I Want From Super Smash Bros. For NX | List

A rumor has recently been spread around the internet that a port of Super Smash Bros. For Wii U is going to be a launch title for Nintendo's new console, codenamed the NX. I personally like this idea very much and think it would be a smart move for Nintendo to make. We know they are open to the idea of remastering and having the same game on multiple consoles because of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, and Twilight Princess HD. Not to mention that Twilight Princess was on both the Gamecube and Wii. So it's not out of the realm of possibility they will do a similar thing with Super Smash Bros.

It also makes logical sense because the game is still fairly new and has only just had it's 'last' DLC released. In theory it will be years before a new Super Smash Bros. game comes out, (although rumors also exist that this new Super Smash Bros. on the NX is a new game entirely, but I seriously doubt this) so port over the current game to the new console to tide fans over until the new one comes out (which it inevitably will), while also making a load of money in the meantime.

So although a good idea in theory, there are a few things that I would want to see in Super Smash Bros. For NX, after all, it would be the definitive version of the game, and as such it should have to meet the expectations fans have of what a definitive version of the game is (rather than just a lazy cash grab port). So here are 16 things I would like to see in Super Smash Bros. For NX (in no particular order).

1
All Stages from the Wii U and 3DS Versions

This is a fairly obvious thing to ask for from a definitive version of Smash Bros. 4. But it's something that I'm not sure would happen because of the effort it would take to make the 3DS stages HD. However, the game will most likely have a full retail game price, and as such it should be expected that some extra effort is put in. Some of the best stages in the game are in the 3DS version, which is very annoying considering the Wii U version is clearly the version most people will play. If every 3DS stage was featured in the NX version, think of the amount of stages featured in the game. It would be insane. Insane, but awesome!

2
All DLC Characters, Mii Costumes and Stages

Yet another obvious thing to expect. All the DLC available for Super Smash Bros. For Wii U to be included in the NX version without having to pay again for everything. We would already be paying for a game we already technically own, the least that could be done is to make it worth our money by giving us all the DLC.

3
New Characters and Stages

Okay, so this is one of the things on the list that I really doubt will happen. But it still could. Obviously the positives of this are that we aren't just paying for a remaster, it actually has brand new content that isn't in the older versions of the game. They could bring back the Ice Climbers (which were actually in the game at one point but couldn't run on the 3DS version), or any of the old characters that didn't make the cut, or simply add brand new ones. Inkling anyone?

The main negative being that people that don't own an NX will effectively locked out of Smash Bros. content and won't be able to use those NX exclusive characters and stages at all. Another negative would be if these characters are added as DLC as opposed to being in the game as secrets from the start. We've already paid a lot of money for the DLC for Super Smash Bros. For Wii U, and if that DLC is in the NX version from that start, then I've technically wasted my money by getting that DLC in the first place. Adding more DLC to the NX version would seem like a complete cash grab in my opinion.

4
Smash Run and Smash Tour

One of the worst things about the Wii U version of the game is that the Smash Run mode featured in the 3DS version is completely absent. Instead, the Wii U version got Smash Tour, which was awful and just really not fun at all.

I would hope that Super Smash Bros. For NX would feature both these modes and let you play online with them. A Smash Run online game mode would be intense and add a bit of variety to the game overall.

5
Better Single Player Modes

This is where Super Smash Bros. For Wii U is lacking. The single player modes are basically non existent really, and what is there feels very barebones. There's hardly any variety in the game at all.

The way to fix this, is to add more (better) single player modes! Think something similar to Super Smash Bros. Melee's Adventure mode, which featured exploration based levels with traditional Smash Bros. fighting sections scattered in. Or something like Brawl's Subspace Embassy would be even better, but I doubt this would happen. But a full on story mode where all the characters in the game meet, fight and become friends would be amazing. It's such a shame this wasn't in the game from the start.

6
More Event Matches With Unique Attributes

If there's one thing that absolutely makes Melee better than the new Smash Bros. it's the event matches. They were actually really varied and unique, having you fight secret bosses like Giga Bowser and Crazy Hand, having you fight on top of giant trophies and all other manner of things. Plus the event matches actually unlocked things, whereas in Super Smash Bros. For Wii U, I don't remember them doing anything.

Perhaps a lot more attention could be put on the event matches and you could unlock all the 3DS stages by completing them. Also, get rid of the difficulty settings, the last event matches should be extremely difficult, then when you beat them you get a higher sense of achievement. I don't want to be able to take a shortcut by selecting an easy mode. Just make the events get naturally harder as you progress.

7
Better Online Functionality

The online mode in Super Smash Bros. For Wii U is what really separates it from the older games. Sure, Brawl had an online mode too, but it wasn't anywhere near as in depth as the Wii U version's online mode.

What I would want from the NX version is a way of properly interacting with people you play against, maybe an easy way of adding people as friends, a way of looking at win to loss ratio against specific players, streaming capabilities, make the connections generally better between players, and so much more. Although this might be more down to what the NX is capable of as opposed to the game itself.

8
No Added Amiibo Interaction

I'm not sure what I think to the Amiibo situation. On the one hand they are cool little figures that you can collect that happen to give you benefits in some games, but on the other hand some of the benefits they give you also leave players that don't have the Amiibo locked out of important content.

I actually think the way Super Smash Bros. For Wii U uses Amiibo is one of the best examples of how you should do it. Because it does lock you out of a bit of content the game has to offer, but this bit of content isn't needed in the slightest to access any part of the game. It's a very, very small part of the game and I don't mind not having access to it because it's 100% optional. Also, almost every single Amiibo is compatible with it, meaning that if you only have one Amiibo, the odds are you can use it with Super Smash Bros.

9
Let Me Unlock Stuff

I've already mentioned that it would be nice to have to unlock the 3DS stages. And the reason I say this is because in the Wii U version you hardly have to unlock anything. And it's so easy to unlock everything even without looking up how to do it. This makes the unlocking process feel unrewarding and makes you feel like you've seen everything the game has to offer at a very early stage of play.

The problem with doing this now is that we already know who all the characters are, and having to do something really difficult to unlock something we already have in the Wii U version feels a bit unnecessary and a bit of an annoyance.

However. What if Nintendo kept it secret that you could in fact unlock the Ice Climbers, Snake, Wolf, Young Link, Rayman, King K. Rool, Inklings, The Wonderful 101, Monster Hunter, Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright, etc. But you unlocked them in the game by completing event matches, doing the classic mode, doing Smash Run, etc. It would be completely unexpected and would have players searching the game to find all the secrets. Plus it would get the world talking about it, the game would advertise itself.

I doubt this will happen, but still. A man can dream.

10
An Option for Taking the Stage Bosses Out of the Stages

Why isn't this in the game anyway? I hardly ever play the standard versions of Wily Castle or Gaur Plain because of the bosses interrupting the fight. Sure, this is a nice addition and I do like playing with the bosses sometimes, but an option to turn them off and just fight on the stages as they are would be nice.

11
Mii Characters Can Be Played Online

I personally haven't felt the need to buy any Mii costumes despite some of them actually being quite cool. Why? Because they can't be used in one of the main (if not the main) parts of the game. The online modes. I get that you can customise the Miis so it might be unfair fighting against one because you don't know what it's capable of. But what if the online versions of the Miis had set moves rather than being customisable? It doesn't feel like the Miis are proper characters because you can't use them in some modes of the game and this just feels strange to me. You should be able to use them just like any other character.

Also, in a similar way. Why can't you play the Miiverse stage online? I honestly don't get this at all. This makes even less sense than the Mii character situation to me. This should be fixed for sure. Nevermind in the NX version, this should be fixed in the Wii U version.

12
Better Loading Times

Super Smash Bros. For Wii U and For 3DS take a very long time to load upon start up. I know it loads a lot of music and stuff and there is probably a legitimate reason this takes so long, but hopefully the NX will be able to reduce this loading time by a lot. At least I hope it will...

13
Better Menu

Okay, so another one of the worst things about the game in my opinion, is the menu. Finding a specific game type or a specific options menu can take forever because it just doesn't make sense to me. Finding the Trophy Rush mode in particular can take a long time because it isn't in the menu with the rest of the game modes. It's in a menu where you look at trophies. Also, the menu isn't very nice to look at either. It just doesn't fit together very well and looks cluttered. Give me a simple straight forward Melee style menu over this any day.

14
Better Name

The name 'Super Smash Bros. For Wii U' is terrible. It doesn't flow very well and fans of the game just call it 'Smash 4'. I really hope the NX version isn't called Super Smash Bros. For NX. It was rumored for a long time that Smash 4 was going to be called Super Smash Bros. Universe. That would have been a much, much better name! Call it that! Call it anything other than 'For NX'!

15
An Original Opening Video

This is something else that is slightly annoying about Super Smash Bros. For Wii U. The opening for the game is just clips of the trailers for the game with gameplay edited in. It's not very good and it just comes across as slightly lazy. Melee had an amazing opening that really got you hyped to play the game and showed off what the Gamecube was capable of. Super Smash Bros. For NX could do the same thing for the NX.

Also, make the announcer shout the name of the game at the end of the opening video! Remember when that happened in Melee? It was great!

16
Customise the Character Select Screen

The character select screen is a bit of a mess. I know it kind of makes sense with the DLC, third party and unlockable characters being at the bottom, but I want to put all the characters with their own series. I want Dr. Mario with the Mario characters, I want Lucina, Corrin and Roy with the Fire Emblem characters, I want Mewtwo with the Pokemon characters, etc.

So I thought that what would be quite cool is if you could change the character select screen and customise it to how you want it, you could do what I would do and arrange them by series or order them from your favourite to least favourite and you should be able to do the same with the stage select screen too.

So there we are, the 16 things I would like to see implemented into Super Smash Bros. For NX. I doubt a lot of it will be put in, but I think some points are fairly valid and should be expected from the NX version. Out of all of these points I think one of the things that should definitely be expected and one of the best things that could be implemented is the inclusion of all the 3DS stages.

Do you think I've missed anything? Is there something you disagree with? Do you even think the rumor of an NX version of Smash 4 is plausible? Leave a comment below and let me know what you think!
